Building A Network For Success

You’ll learn why investing in your network is the best bet you can make, as well as how to maximize that investment for greatest returns. You’ll identify exactly how to grow your network to make your goals a reality.


How to begin to build and grow your network

Dale Carnegie taught us that we have to “know, like, and trust” people in order to do business (or anything) with them. So we start with “knowing”... aka how to meet the right people, and make them interested in knowing you, too. You’ll learn how to map your current network, strategically decide where to invest your time to attract the right new relationships, get more warm introductions (with less effort!), maximize your time when you don’t have a lot of it, make a winning first impression, the best questions to ask to break the ice and build rapport quickly, and deliver ‘elevator pitches’ that work. Oh, and why you should stop asking the question “How can I help you?” and ask the one I’ll teach you instead!


How to connect with anyone you want to meet (without seeming desperate)

Get this: There are not 6 degrees of separation between you and whomever you want to know: there are 3.46 degrees, which means anyone you want to know is statistically less than 4 people away from you! You’ll learn how to navigate those relationships with ease, add value without overextending yourself, why you should stop doing this one thing that is shutting doors you didn’t realize, when to say ‘no’ (and how) without burning a bridge, and, get this, the 5 styles of mentorship (not 1!) to consider for your ongoing growth and learning.

When’s it okay to ask for a favor or introduction from someone in your network? This is an important detail to learn as it can make-or-break a relationship. Ask too soon: you come off as a taker. Never ask…. Never get. Let a relationship go dormant and then ask, and you can be off-putting. We’ll review the ideal give-to-ask ratio and other strategies to use that leave you and the person you’re asking both feeling great about it, resulting in more opportunities coming your way.


What to do when you get a referral (and how to keep getting them)

You’ll learn how to create a referral process so that you take great care of the introductions that are given to you and honor the referrer, as well, thus creating a virtuous cycle for more introductions. Not all referrals are spot-on, so you’ll learn what to do when they’re not a fit. We’ll review how to track your leads, referrals, and referral partner relationships. We’ll also cover the most common mistakes people make that lose them referral opportunities.


How to grow trust and nurture your relationships 

Trust is the bedrock of any relationship, and it’s a requirement for someone to feel comfortable to extend their trusted relationship to you. It grows through time and intentional nurturing. We’ll review striking data about what happens when we lose touch with people, and conversely, teach you easy to manage and maintain daily practices that will enable you to stay top-of-mind with your network in as little as a few minutes a day. 


What to do when your network gets really big

There are only so many hours in the day and people with whom you can genuinely engage. So, you’ll learn the science behind how many people you should have in your network, suggested contact management tools and strategies to keep track of them, and how to prioritize a large and growing network.


The hierarchy of lead generation

Not all relationships are created equal, and that’s absolutely okay. You’ll take your learnings on prioritizing your network and learn how to revive dormant contacts, a fun and fool-proof personalized strategy to nurture multiple contacts at the same time, and get a template to make winning email introductions, every time.
