what’s the ‘cost’ of personal growth? 🤔

'what if people don’t accept this new version of me?’ my podcast co-host, kimberlin bolton, shared this question vulnerably at the top of our latest episode.

it made me curious if you might ever wonder the same thing, consciously or unconsciously, too?

at its core are the questions:

  • will i be accepted?

  • will i be loved?

  • will this cause pain?

  • and what is the cost of doing this very human thing: growing?

y’all know that i’m a lover of personal growth. and kimberlin’s question hits on an element of it that is so often overlooked. that a. what got us ‘here’ may not get us ‘there’,  b. change (growth) might cause a wake, and c. change doesn’t always feel good in the moment.

this can also brush up fears or triggers based on past experiences. this begs the follow-up questions, “of what am i afraid?” and “what if that/those fears came to pass?

we discuss this and a lot more in today’s episode. click here to listen or to bookmark it for later.

here are some highlights from this 59-minute episode (or 28.5 minutes on 2x speed) that is filled with literal laughter and tears:

  • how to create spaces that invite people to inquire within and heal themselves (and/or yourself)

  • how to affirm that you’re on the right path

  • how to use ’positive delusions of hope’ to get you from where you are (no matter how bleak) to where you want to be

  • how/why your growth triggers people around you and what to do about that

  • how to tap into the truth of who you were “before the world told you different(ly)” (a kimberlin quote)

  • the parallels between video games and your growth journey

  • no matter how non-linear your path, why it’s all coalescing towards your unique mission

  • why the feeling of ‘when ____ happens, i’ll feel ____’ is a dangerous chase

  • discerning whether or not your actions align with who you say you are

  • why we disqualify ourselves from the thing we, uniquely, were put here to do

as always, i’d love to hear what applies to you and how you’ll integrate that into your life. please do let me know!

to your growth, darrah
