seth godin is going to change the way you think about your work

no matter if you consider yourself a ‘creative’ or not, i’d venture to bet that you are.

entrepreneurship in and of itself is a creative endeavor: you have an idea and create something out of nothing day in and day out. you use your creative problem-solving skills. you write copy. create/approve brand imagery for your website or social media.

you have a vision and you make it come to life. what is more creative than that?

some believe that in order to be creative (or get inspired to do anything), they have to wait for the ‘muse’ to strike.

i disagree. creativity, like most practices, is just that: a practice.

seth godin also agrees with me as i learned in our recent conversation.

i sliced and diced it into a number of short clips so you can get the good stuff in a jiffy.

here are all the clips and some of the specific highlights below:

-why the way that you’re thinking about the creative process is wrong.

-when and whose criticism a creator should listen to.

-advice on finding your calling.

-on feeling like an imposter when creating new work.

-why creating blockbuster hits are unpredictable and not the point.

-how to overcome the fear of selling your creative work.

-how to get unstuck and create generous work.

-why you don’t need credentials.

-how to stay consistent and get unstuck (and his personal practice).

before you hop into the next email, pause to think: what’s my biggest takeaway from seth and what will i do with it?
