is it time to clear that out?

"you have to dismantle the old to make space for something new." rupaul shares this in his memoir. when i heard it, it rang so true that i wrote it down to share it with you.

i immediately thought of my literal experience with this: tearing down a house to build a new one.

from the outside, you couldn’t tell the foundation had an 8-inch separation running through it.

rather than rebuilding on top to fix what would have been unstable, we tore it down.

a lot of tumult ensued as it took longer and cost more pain, stress, and money than we'd imagined.

yet, from this vantage point, having been living in it for over a year, we're better off for it (and so is the neighborhood).

this is an apt metaphor for how things can look okay to other people but not feel okay inside.

how the work to get from where you are to where you want to be isn't always linear, easy, or enjoyable.

but as you do the work to align action with your aims, asking your brain to rewire its neural pathways and expend a lot of energy to work against what's been habituated, it will pay off with patience and persistence.

harkening back to ru's words: what do you need to dismantle to make space for something new?

to your healthy and thoughtful dismantling and rebuilding, darrah
